Summer Bass Fishing
Summer Bass Fishing

Bass fishing in summer is the hardest, but knowing a couple of things about the bass behavior can result in a rewarding fishing day. The most important things to remember are: to fish deep, to find structures, and not to give up until you find your honey hole.

One of the most important things about summer is to fish deep. Bass like a certain temperature, and they need to stay a little bit cooler to keep their metabolism going. If they feel too hot or too cold, their metabolism will slow, and they will not stay very active. This is why you need to fish deep and stay deep.

When you are casting deep, try to find deep structures. These can include drop-offs, points, and roadbeds. To find these, it is helpful to have a topographical map of the lake that you are fishing. You need to search all over the structure. Most of the time, only a small portion of the structure will house the majority of the bass.

It is also good to try and spot suspended bass. Sometimes these fish will not be active, but you can bet that a good structure is nearby.

When fishing in a lake with a lot of grass, you may still want to fish shallow just because the fish like the cover and habitat of the grass. Bass in the shallows will sometimes be inactive. Try to find grass as deep as you can and fish it. There could be a lot of big bass hiding in deep, tall grass.

Another thing to remember is not to give up. Summer fishing is challenging, and it can take days to find that perfect spot. Follow your map and trust it. Fish all around every structure until you find where these bass are hiding.

Even professional fishermen say that bass fishing in summer can be an ordeal, but they do not give up after a couple of hours. Finding that honey hole can make your day on the lake very fun and productive.

Best summer bass fishing in Northern KY?

I have been trying to scope out northern kentucky for some bass fishing. For a while during the spring, it was okay, but now the summer and lack of rain is making bass fishing here bad. Where can I go in northern ky or southern ohio (cincinnati)?? If you could provide them, some general tips on catching bass at that lake??

IN NOrthern Kentucky there are several State lakes.. Kinkade and Earl Combs lakes are decent. The Ohio river in Northern Kentucky can provide some good fishing.. though the BFL guys in Louisville Today had it tough. Biggest lake near you is Cave Run but bass fishing there is average. There is Brookville Lake in Southeastern Indiana and some small lakes around Cincinnati. Nolin is about a 3 hour drive from you at least. 2 hours to Louisville on I-71 and 1hour to 1.5 on I-65 south to Nolin. Herrington Lake is closer near Lexington and is fairly good.. as is Wilgreen lake another State Lake.

  • If you know anyone that lives in Hidden Valley you can try there. It is a community on the boarder of Ohio/Indiana in Lawrenceburg and Bright. They have some nice 5-8 ponders and 2-3 ponders all day. Hidden valley has one big lake and many small ones. Bad thing is you have to know someone that lives there to fish but if your from around here just ask around. Check out my post http://www.fish-and-hunt.net/2063/fishing-hidden-valley-lake-indiana-without-a-boat/ it has good tips for that lake. Heck, contact me through my site if you want.
